So, in the past couple weeks, I’ve stumbled upon a couple really cool gaming companies that I’d like to share.

1) 2D Boy Games. Perhaps you’ve not heard of this company specifically but I’ve no doubt many of you have heard of their signature game: World of Goo.

If you haven’t tried this game yet, you should without doubt, download the demo and give it a… goo.

This isn’t really a serious game for ‘hardcore gamers’ but it’s quite addictive and a nice distraction if you just have 5 minutes here or there.

What makes this company so cool though? Here’s the goods. Not only can you buy this game through Steam for a very fair price, but if you spend the $20 and buy the game through 2D Boy’s website you get a fantastic deal.

- No DRM? Check (for those who don’t know, DRM is software ‘protection’ which prevents you from installing the game on as many computers as you want in order to ‘prevent piracy’)

- Available for platforms OTHER THAN WINDOWS? CHECK! – That’s right, not only can you install this game on all your computers… you can actually INSTALL THIS GAME ON ALL YOUR COMPUTERS. Currently, 2D Boy has downloads available for Windows, Apple OSX and Linux!

2) GOG.com. GOG.com stands for Good Old Games. These guys aren’t exactly a game company so much as a game distribution company. And the games you find here are not cutting edge today… but they probably were at one time! These guys have a ton of games from the past and have updated them so that they easily install and run on Windows XP and Vista.

So what’s so cool about these guys? Let’s take a look.

- No DRM? Check – again, another gaming company that doesn’t treat its customers like criminals.

- Good Prices? Check – although it does take a credit card, you won’t need unlimited credit for these guys! Some games are as cheap as $5.99 (Fallout, Fallout 2 for example) and most of the games are only $9.99. Like Steam, these guys usually have weekend sales also.

- Good selection? Check – Gog.com has a great selection of games! at the time of me writing this, there were more than 80 games for sale.

So, if you’re looking for some cool games and don’t want to spend a lot of money, check out both of these choices and help support gaming companies that actually don’t hate their customers!

If you have any other companies or sites that are similar to this, please reply and let us know who they are!
