Nintendo Weekly Downloads (2009-09-14)

by travis on Sep.14, 2009, under Video Games

Another week of Nintendo downloads has arrived (I know I skipped the last 2 but it doesn’t matter no one reads this anyway). Although there weren’t any releases that I’d consider earth-shattering it still appears to be a decent week overall.

The biggest surprise for me was DSiWare. For the first time, something was released that I’m actually interested in and I’d probably buy it if I had a DSi. Oscar in Toyland looks interesting to me and amazingly enough it doesn’t look to be just another puzzle game! Read below to get the full description of the game from Nintendo’s official press release.

WiiWare brings us Texas Hold’Em Poker, Spaceball: Revolution and Mart Racer. Poker might interest me if I didn’t have a PC and a Steam account with which I could just buy the game. I’d rather play a game like Poker on my PC. Spaceball: Revolution and Mart Racer also interest me but I always worry with motion control games (Mart Racer at least appears to use motion controls)… I’ll let some other people try it and see their reviews before I actually purchase either of them.

And surprisingly enough, even with three WiiWare titles, Nintendo still gives a nod to the Virtual Console lovers out there! Honestly, I had never even heard of the NES game Crash ‘N The Boys Street Challenge. From the description it appears to be some sort of street track and field game? Doesn’t sound overly appealing to me but hey, a VC game is a VC game!

Steam Weekend Deal: Braid

by travis on Sep.10, 2009, under Video Games

Steam decided to start the weekend deals early this week and announced Braid will sell for $4.99 down $10 from $14.99!

I haven’t played this game myself but I’m certainly tempted to purchase it!

Steam’s page for the game can be found here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/26800/

“Braid is a puzzle-platformer, drawn in a painterly style, where you can manipulate the flow of time in strange and unusual ways. From a house in the city, journey to a series of worlds and solve puzzles to rescue an abducted princess. In each world, you have a different power to affect the way time behaves, and it is time’s strangeness that creates the puzzles. The time behaviors include: the ability to rewind, objects that are immune to being rewound, time that is tied to space, parallel realities, time dilation, and perhaps more.”

The game is only single-player but you can collect Steam Achievements which always adds to the fun of the game for me.
